Iraq: Baghdad

Volume 685: debated on Tuesday 10 October 2006

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will encourage British officials in Iraq to make additional visits outside the green zone in Baghdad, bearing in mind that many Baghdad citizens do not enjoy comparable levels of protection. [HL7412]

Our staff work hard to speak to a broad cross-section of Iraqi opinion. They undertake trips outside the green zone only when it is operationally essential for them to do so. It would be wrong to encourage them to take unnecessary risks with their personal security and we do not do so.
