Prisons: Strip Searching

Volume 686: debated on Tuesday 7 November 2006

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the strip searching of children at HM Prison Huntercombe and other prison establishments will now be stopped.[HL7509]

Our policy is that all prisoners, including children and young people, may be subject to full searches. Such searches, formerly known as “strip searches”, are a necessary tool in order to maintain security, safety and control in prisons, and there are no plans to alter this approach.
