asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines on childhood obesity recommends surgical procedures; and, if so, which specific procedures are recommended. [HL909]

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's clinical guideline on obesity recommends bariatric surgery for children and young people only in exceptional circumstances and only if they have achieved physiological maturity. The surgical procedures recommended are: jejunoileal bypass, gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion, gastroplasty and gastric banding.
