Schools: EU Nationals

Volume 688: debated on Tuesday 23 January 2007

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many additional (a) primary schools, and (b) secondary schools are estimated to be required in each local authority area to meet the needs of children who have entered England and Wales from countries that joined the European Union in 2004. [HL1313]

It is the responsibility of local authorities to ensure that there are sufficient schools in their areas and to plan accordingly. They are required to inform the DfES of plans for new schools only when they publish statutory notices. I am not therefore in a position to say how many new schools will be required in local authorities to meet changes in population for whatever reason.
