Government: Composition

Volume 689: debated on Thursday 22 February 2007

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Written Answer by Lord Bassam of Brighton on 13 December (WA 203), why the answer given related to the Civil Service and not to the Government to whom the question was addressed; and whether they will now answer the original question. [HL1066]

The Civil Service acts on behalf of the Government, and the previous Answer demonstrated that the Civil Service is broadly representative of the community it serves.

The Cabinet Office deals only with Civil Service employees, and consequently only holds Civil Service workforce data.
