National Insurance

Volume 691: debated on Monday 23 April 2007

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Written Answer by Lord McKenzie of Luton on 29 March (HL2934), why they do not keep a record of the nationality of those issued with a national insurance number; and whether they plan to do so in future. [HL3130]

Information on the nationality of those issued with a national insurance number is recorded on the NIRS2 system which is run by HMRC. The facility to capture and record nationality on the customer information system came in on 26 March 2007 and will be used in all national insurance numbers allocated from that date.
