Immigration: Deportation

Volume 698: debated on Thursday 24 January 2008

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many members of the Border and Immigration Agency staff are employed in the deportation of (a) visa overstayers and (b) illegal immigrants. [HL1197]

The Border and Immigration Agency does not distinguish between staff employed in the removal of (a) visa overstayers and (b) illegal immigrants. As of 30 November 2007 there were 1,446 operational staff employed within the local enforcement offices of the Border and Immigration Agency directly engaged in operational activity, including the detention and removal of overstayers and illegal immigrants.
