Houses of Parliament: Bribery

Volume 707: debated on Wednesday 11 February 2009

Question

Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will introduce legislation to prohibit bribery of members of either House of Parliament in relation to proceedings in Parliament and to require parliamentary privilege to be waived in relation to bribery charges. [HL1139]

The Government are committed to reform of the law of bribery and intend to bring forward a draft bribery Bill for pre-legislative scrutiny this Session. This follows the publication of the Law Commission report Reforming Bribery (HC 928) in November last year. We are currently considering its recommendations and related issues, including parliamentary privilege.
