War Crimes

Volume 711: debated on Monday 1 June 2009

Question

Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many prosecutions have been brought under the Genocide Act 1969, the War Crimes Act 1991 and the International Criminal Court Act 2001. [HL3790]

Information collected centrally by the Ministry of Justice on the court proceedings database does not separately identify offences under the International Criminal Court (ICC) Act 2001 and the War Crimes Act 1991. Genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes are recorded as murder or ancillary offences. Other offences against the administration of justice in relation to the ICC may be dealt with as the corresponding domestic offence.

The Genocide Act 1969 was repealed by the International Criminal Court Act 2001 on 31 August 2001.
