Crime: Guns

Volume 712: debated on Monday 5 October 2009

Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many crimes involving the use of guns were reported in the last five years in the five largest United Kingdom cities; and what action they are taking to reduce the occurrence of such crimes. [HL5371]

The Home Office collects firearm offences data on a police force area level in England and Wales. It is not centrally possible to relate directly these data to every specific city. However, firearms offences continue to drop in the top three police force areas in England and Wales, which account for 56 per cent of all non-air weapon firearm offences in England and Wales. Annexes A, B and C provide further detail.
