Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many young people aged under 18 were remanded in custody in each year since 1992. [HL5905]

The decision on whether to grant bail or remand a defendant to custody is one for the courts to make, in each case, in line with the statutory framework primarily set out in the Bail Act 1976. The table below sets out the number of remand episodes in each year since 2001. Earlier data are not available.
