To ask Her Majesty's Government in the light of the launch by the European Commission of the second phase of infraction proceedings over the United Kingdom's not implementing European Union rules on privacy and personal data protection when using electronic communications, (a) what advice they received from officials on that issue, (b) what legislative action they took as a consequence, and (c) what response they will make to the European Commission press release about the infraction proceedings.
