Internet: Broadband

Volume 715: debated on Monday 7 December 2009

Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps they propose for introducing new technologies to increase broadband internet access across the rural areas of the United Kingdom. [HL125]

The Government recognise the crucial importance of broadband internet access in rural areas. The delivery of the universal service commitment for broadband, making access to a line capable of delivering 2mbps possible from almost all homes across the UK, and the Next Generation Fund for super-fast broadband, are likely to use a mix of technologies, including fixed line, satellite, mobile or other wireless technologies.
