To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the use of the words college or university in the names of institutions of higher education is monitored or regulated. [HL365]

Asked by

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many (a) universities, (b) colleges, and (c) other institutions of higher education there are in the United Kingdom. [HL366]

In 2008-09 there were 165 higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. The latest information from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is provided in the table below.
