To ask Her Majesty's Government further to the Written Answer by Lord McKenzie of Luton on 17 March (WA 193), how many of the 4,285,130 adult overseas nationals registering for national insurance numbers since 2002 made national insurance contributions in the last available year; and how many were from (a) European Union, and (b) non-European Union, countries. HM Revenue and Customs estimates that 1.25 million European Union and 983,000 non- European Union adult overseas nationals who have registered since January 2002 paid national insurance contributions in the 2008-09 tax year. This is based on a 2 per cent sample of national insurance records. It does not include class 4 contributions.
