asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection (1) what is the Government's new target date for full metrication in Great Britain;(2) by what date the food industry will be fully metric.

There is no change in the target dates for industry generally though I recognise that the dates for completion of the change will vary sector by sector.

This is the responsibility of the Metrication Board and I have stressed the importance of ensuring that the protection of the consumer is given the maximum significance.
