To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many rights of way have been (a) reopened and (b) established in (i) Southend-on-Sea, (ii) Essex and (iii) Hertfordshire in the last five years for which figures are available.

Responsibility for improving the rights of way network, and ensuring that routes are properly recorded and maintained, rests with individual local highway authorities.

Data on how many new routes have been re-opened and established is not collected centrally by DEFRA.
