To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many warnings have been issued by the Nuclear Safety Directorate to nuclear plants owned or operated by British Energy in each of the last five years.

Warnings are not a feature of the regulatory regime enforced by HSE’s Nuclear Safety Directorate. However, should there be a need for enforcement action enforcement notices are issued accordingly.

I am informed that HSE has issued 11 improvement notices to British Energy during the last five years.
