To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment she has made of the recent agreement between the Pakistani authorities and militants in North Waziristan; and if she will make a statement.

The results of the Jirga process in North Waziristan were announced shortly before my last visit to Pakistan at the beginning of September. The senior officials of the North West Frontier Province were optimistic that tribal structures would be able to deliver effective implementation. We are watching this carefully.
