To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many NHS institutions employ speech and language therapists; and what proportion of such institutions decided not to recruit newly qualified practitioners in 2006.

The number of speech and language therapists employed by primary care trusts has been placed in the Library.

If any of these institutions have decided not to recruit newly qualified practitioners in 2006 it is not recorded centrally.
