Railways: Tees Valley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans his Department has to fund the development of a Tees Valley metro system.

The Department has no plans to fund the development of a Tees Valley Metro system and has received no request to do so.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will assess the merits of funding an extension of the Tyne and Wear Metro system to incorporate South Durham and Hartlepool in its network.

It would be for the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority and Executive, and not central Government, to investigate the feasibility of any such extensions to the Metro system. The Department is not aware of any such plans.
