17. To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what steps the Government are taking to ensure that new schools, hospitals and other public buildings meet high standards of energy efficiency.

The Government have put in place a combination of challenging targets and minimum standards to ensure that new public buildings are energy efficient and make a long term contribution to lower carbon emissions.
