To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many telephone helplines are sponsored by his Department with the prefix (a) 0870 and (b) 0845; and whether alternative geographic numbers are available in each case.

From central records the only information that can be provided on the Department’s use of 0870 and 0845 telephone numbers is listed below. Call volumes to these numbers, especially the 0870 numbers, are relatively low and the Department does not offer alternative geographic contact numbers;
