To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what basis the asylum support benefit rates are set; and whether that basis will apply to their next uprating.

The statutory basis of asylum support is to meet the essential living needs of asylum seekers and their dependants who would otherwise be destitute. No decision has been taken on the uprating of asylum support rates for 2009.
