---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew Selous To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how many (a) staff of and (b) contractors for his Department based in London are paid less than the London living wage. Mr. McNulty [holding answer 13 March 2009]: The information is as follows. (a) Full-time London based DWP employees have a 36 hour working week whereas the London Living Wage is calculated on the basis of a 38.5 hour working week. DWP employees based in London are paid on the relevant DWP inner or outer London payscale according to their grade and location. All of our directly employed London based employees are paid at a level above that of the London Living Wage when calculated on the basis of either a 36 or a 38.5 hour working week. (b) DWP does not contractually require its suppliers to pay their employees at levels above the London Living Wage. It may be that within individual supply chains some employees are paid below the London Living Wage. However, it would be at a disproportionate cost to collect and collate the information requested.
