Oil Tankers And Terminals 33. Sir Bernard Braine asked the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to prevent oil tankers of 20,000 tons or over which, like the "Betelgeuse" which blew up at Bantry Bay on 8th January, are not equipped with an inert gas safety system, from being handled at any jetty in the United Kingdom close to residential population, as at Canvey Island. Mr. William Rodgers I refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Nelson and Colne (Mr. Hoyle) on 26 January.—[Vol. 961, c. 270–1.]
