Vehicle Excise Duty

All EU States levy a form of vehicle excise duty. The level charged can vary according to one or more factors, including engine capacity, weight, fuel type and the district in which the vehicle is registered.

As of 1997, engine capacity was a factor in determining the level of vehicle excise duty payable for passengers cars in the following EU countries: BelgiumGermanySpainGreeceIrelandLuxembourg, andPortugal.
