Sunday Entertainments Act 1932 2.59 p.m. THE MINISTER OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (LORD WINDLESHAM) rose to move, That the Order made under the Act by the Secretary of State for the Home Department for extending section one of the Act to the Borough of Tyne-mouth, be approved. The noble Lord said: My Lords, the purpose of this Order, which has been submitted by the County Borough of Tynemouth under the procedure laid down in the Sunday Entertainments Act 1932, is to extend Section 1 of the Act to the county borough and thereby confer on the justices for the Petty Sessional Division of Tynemouth, who are the licensing authority under the Cinematograph Act 1909, power to allow the Sunday opening of cinemas in that borough. All that it is necessary for me to add is that Tyne-mouth is the last county borough in England and Wales to submit an Order for the approval of Parliament enabling cinemas to open on a Sunday in its area, and it is this procedure which the Bill of the noble Lord, Lord Strabolgi, which has just been received on Report, will abolish in the future. My Lords, I beg to move. Moved, That the Order made under the Act by the Secretary of State for the Home Department for extending section one of the Act to the Borough of Tyne-mouth, be approved—( Lord Windlesham.) On Question, Motion agreed to.
