[76082] Mr. Dewar [holding answer 11 March 1999]:(a) The numbers of inward investment projects since 1981 are given in the table: --------- |Year | --------- |1981–82| --------- |1982–83| --------- |1983–84| --------- |1984–85| --------- |1985–86| --------- |1986–87| --------- |1987–88| --------- |1988–89| --------- |1989–90| --------- |1990–91| --------- |1991–92| --------- |1992–93| --------- |1993–94| --------- |1994–95| --------- |1995–96| --------- |1996–97| --------- |1997–98| --------- Source: 1981–82 to 1986–87 published in NAO report 1987–88 to date published in LIS Review for that year (b) This information is not available. (c) The number of jobs which the inward investment projects attracted to Scotland since April 1981 were expected to create or safeguard is as follows: ------------- |1981–82 | ------------- |1982–83 | ------------- |1983–84 | ------------- |1984–85 | ------------- |1985–86 | ------------- |1986–87 | ------------- |1987–88 | ------------- |1988–89 | ------------- |1989–90 | ------------- |1990–91 | ------------- |1991–92 | ------------- |1992–93 | ------------- |1993–94 | ------------- |1994–95 | ------------- |1995–96 | ------------- |1996–97 | ------------- |1997–98 | ------------- |Total || ------------- |Grand total||||| ------------- Source: 1981–82 to 1986–87 published in NAO report 1987–88 to date published in LIS Review for that year The above figures are based on information provided by the companies involved themselves when the investment decision was taken and take no account of subsequent developments. As a general rule of thumb, two thirds of announced jobs are actually created. From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
