Zimbabwe Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further representations he has made to the Government of Zimbabwe concerning the repatriation of assets owned in that country by British citizens; and if he will make a statement. Mr. Onslow I would draw the hon. Member's attention to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Member for Shoreham (Mr. Luce) to my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Mrs. Knight) on 18 November in which he explained that it would not be appropriate for Her Majesty's Government to make formal representations to the Zimbabwe Government on the question of their exchange controls. However, we regularly remind the Zimbabweans of the difficulties which these controls sometimes cause people in this country and we understand that they are prepared to give sympathetic consideration to cases of genuine hardship.—[Vol. 13, c. 144.]
