Sir Anthony Royle asked the Secretary of State for Defence what contribution in 1974, 1975 and 1976 his Department made both in man-hours and money towards the BBC External Services; and what is the total hours of broadcasting time allotted to overseas countries in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Mr. Mason My Department's support of the BBC External Services is confined to a share of the Government contribution towards the cost of the BBC Monitoring Service which was referred to in the reply to the hon. Member's Question of 4th February—[Vol. 904, c. 587–8]—to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
