asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his estimate of the total annual cost of education and training undertaken by his Department.

The estimated total current annual cost of the education and training of civilian staff employed by the Ministry of Defence is as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These figures represent the total annual cost of training carried out within the Department, by the Civil Service college or externally and include basic staff costs of the students, but exclude travel and subsistence allowances.
