Mr. Gordon Brown asked the Paymaster General if he will list the numbers employed in (a) manufacturing industry and (b) manufacturing and construction industry in each parliamentary constituency in 1984, on the basis of his results from the labour force survey, showing for each constituency, the gains and losses in (a) manufacturing and (b) manufacturing and construction employees since 1981. Mr. Kenneth Clarke The information requested is not available. The labour force survey only provides estimates at national and regional level and is not designed to provide information for smaller areas such as parliamentary constituencies. The available constituency figures are the same as given in my reply to the hon. Member on 10 April 1987, at columns 435–443.
