Regional Water Authorities

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether reductions are being carried out in the administrative staff of the regional water authorities; and, if so, what the proportions are involved in those economies.

My right hon. Friend has emphasised to water authorities his concern that they should exercise strict economy in their use of manpower; the scope for reductions in staff of any category is a matter for each authority to keep under review.
