To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what consultations he has carried out amongst the leaders of British industry on their attitude to the Maastricht negotiations; what were the responses he received; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lilley
The director general of the CBI congratulated the Prime Minister and his colleagues on having "achieved exactly what business needs" from Maastricht. The Government, too, believe that British industry will be well served by the agreement reached at Maastricht.
