Mr. Lang Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate sought the views of the Ministry of Defence, the Industry Department for Scotland, the Scottish Development Department and Babcock-Thorn. Mr. Gordon Brown asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on what occasions since 1974 nuclear site licences have been awarded without any consultative process. Mr. Lang I am advised by Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate that during the period in question no licence has been awarded in respect of a new nuclear installation without consultation.
