Mr. Benn asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence whether known members of the Communist Party are accepted for military service under the call-up; and what is the form of the oath of allegiance they are required to take. Mr. Birch Membership of the Communist Party is not accepted as a reason for exempting men from their obligations under the National Service Acts. National Service men are not required to take any oath of allegiance.
