Dog Licences Mr. Colvin asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dog licences were issued and what was the total gross revenue raised in the financial year 1979–80. Mr. Wiggin I have been asked to reply. This information is not yet available but, judging by experience in recent years, about 2·8 million dog licences will have been taken out in Great Britain raising about £1 million gross. Mr. Colvin asked the Secretary of State for the Environment to what level the cost of a dog licence would have to be raised to bring its purchasing power to the level in real terms of 7s. 6d., as first established in 1878. Mr. Wiggin I have been asked to reply.I am advised by the Central Statistical Office that, in terms of purchasing power, the corresponding amount today might lie in the range £7·50–£8·50.
