Common Fisheries Policy

 Mr. John MacKay
asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current state of negotiations towards the development of a common fisheries policy of the European Economic Community.

Mr. Peter Walker
The last meeting of the Fisheries Council on 3 December showed some signs of a more constructive atmosphere than had previously been evident. I hope that further progress can be made at the next Council meeting on 29 January towards a satisfactory revised common fisheries policy.

 Mr. Sproat
asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to discuss the renegotiation of the common fisheries policy with his EEC counterparts.
