Senegal/Guinea Bissau Dispute Lord Merrivale asked Her Majesty's Government:Whether there is a conflict between Senegal and Guinea Bissau arising out of the judgment of the Arbitration Tribunal in Geneva dated 31st July 1989 in relation to the demarcation of their maritime frontier; and whether there is an opportunity for mediation regarding the zone in dispute. Lord Brabazon of Tara We are aware of recent incidents on the Senegal/Guinea Bissau land and sea frontiers. We understand that the situation is now calm. Ministers from both countries met in Paris on 23rd May. They agreed to take measures to minimise the risk of future clashes and to maintain a regular dialogue at Ministerial level. We applaud the efforts being made by the two governments to resolve these matters peacefully.
