Hill Sheep Farmers

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement concerning the prospects of hill sheep farmers, in the light of the latest proposals by Commissioner MacSharry.

I will be making a full statement to the House when we have completed our autumn review of economic conditions in the hills and uplands. I remain determined to ensure that any measures introduced as part of the reform of the CAP should not discriminate against United Kingdom producers, including our hill sheep farmers.
