Letter From Mr. Hatsell, the Clerk of the House, to the Speaker

The Speaker acquainted the House, that he had received the following letter from Mr. Hatsell, the Clerk of the House:

"Cotton Garden, Saturday, 23d July, 1814.

"Sir; In consequence of the melancholy event of the death of Mr. Ley, my late deputy, it having become necessary to make another arrangement of the several clerks attending at the table of the House of Commons, I will beg the favour of you to acquaint the House, that I have appointed Jeremiah Dyson esq. (the present clerk assistant) to be my deputy, in the place of the late Mr. Ley; and John Henry Ley, esq. (the present second assistant clerk) to be clerk assistant, in the place of Mr. Dyson; and John Rickman, esq. to be the second clerk assistant, in the place of Mr. John Henry Ley; and I hope that this arrangement and appointments will be agreeable to you, Sir, and will meet with the approbation of the House. I have the honour to be, Sir, &c.

"J. HATSELL."

The Speaker said, that if this arrangement was agreeable to the House, he should order the clerks to take their seats accordingly. (Hear, hear!)—J. Dyson, esq. then took his place as clerk of the House; J. H. Ley, esq. as first clerk assistant; and J. Rickman, esq. was called in, and took his place as second clerk assistant.
