PETITION.

presented a petition, from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, signed by about 1,000 members of different trades, praying: "That your petitioners have had under consideration the proposed new French tariff; that your petitioners are of opinion that if the proposed new tariff is adopted by the French Legislature much injury will be done to a number of the trades represented by your petitioners. Your petitioners therefore humbly pray that your honourable House will take such steps as may be necessary to secure reductions in the proposed duties, and so prevent the threatened injury."
