asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the Estates Commissioners received an application from an evicted tenant, Timothy Horgan, claiming reinstatement on the lands of Claraghtlea South, estate of MacCarthy O'Leary, barony of Duhallow, near Millstreet, county Cork; are the Commissioners aware that the said tenant and the landlord's representative made a declaration on oath before a magistrate as to the bona fides of this man's claim, and sent the same to Mr. Vaughan, one of the Commissioners' inspectors; will they say what action was taken thereon by the inspector; and what steps they propose to take to procure the reinstatement of the evicted tenant?
The Estates Commissioners have received and inquired into the application of Timothy Horgan as the representative of his father, a former tenant on this estate, and have decided to take no action in this case.
Assistant Teachers (Secondary Schools, Ireland)
asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the assistant teachers in secondary schools are liable to be dismissed without notice and without causa being assigned and without right of appeal; and whether he will arrange that in future when such cases occur that an appeal to the immediate board or to the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction shall be allowed?

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he can state whether overseers, having been once appointed, can be discharged if their work is not efficiently performed; and, if so, by whom?
I am not aware that, speaking generally, an overseer can be discharged from his office on the ground that his work is not efficiently performed; but there are statutory provisions which render him liable to penalties if he neglects his duty.
Cork Libel Case (Post Office Confidential Circular)
asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that in the recent Cork libel case the Superintendent of Telegraphs swore that he never saw the circular which was stated to have been issued to those in control requesting them to treat those under them with consideration; and can he say why such an important centre as Cork was overlooked in this matter?
The confidential circular to which I presume the hon. Member refers was issued to the two Controllers in Dublin and to the Surveyors in Ireland to indicate the nature of the advice they should give to supervising officers. The circular itself was not intended to be communicated to supervising officers generally.

The latest available Returns of work for Coventry are for the period ended 31st December, 1907, and, according to these Returns, the number of units is 573.
City Of Dublin Tenements (Valuation)
asked the Chief Secretary how many tenements are comprised in the city of Dublin for rating purposes, how many of such tenements have been surveyed and valued, respectively, and how many surveyors and valuers are at present employed in connection with the revaluation of Dublin City; if he can say when the Commissioners of Valuation hope to finish the work of revaluation; and if he can say why the provisions of the Dublin Corporation Act of 1900, relating to this matter, have not yet been carried out?
There are from 45,000 to 50,000 tenements in the city of Dublin. Of these 27,000 have been surveyed and 7,000 valued. The staff varies from 5 to 10 surveyors and valuers. Licensed Clubs (Statistics Of Membership)
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department
whether he will state the figures of the membership of clubs in which intoxicating liquors are supplied for the year 1896, and for the years 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908, and 1909?
I am sorry that I cannot give the hon. Member the figures he desires. As regards the year 1896, I can only refer him to the figures relating to clubs, including estimates of membership, which are given in Volume IV. of the volumes published by the Royal Commission on the Liquor Licensing Laws, and are summarised on page 180 thereof. For the, years 1905 and onwards the numbers of registered clubs in England and Walesare officially ascertained, and are given in the annual volumes of licensing statistics, but they do not show membership figures, and I am not in possession of information on that point.

Full statistics as to the payments into and out of the Deferred Annuity Fund are given on page 15 of Part II. of the Statistical Volume issued by the Board (Cd. 4,506). The number of teachers contributing cannot be conveniently stated.
