Calcutta School of Art
asked the Secretary for India whether Mr. Abanindro Nath Tagore has resigned the Vice-principalship of the Calcutta School of Art; and, if so, whether his resignation will be made the occasion of an economy in Indian expenditure, which might be attained by withdrawing the European principal of the school and reorganising it as a genuine school of native Indian art and thus discontinue the effort to inculcate Western methods of art into Oriental art students?
I have no information as to the reported resignation of Mr. Tagore. If it has occurred it is for the local Government to take whatever steps are necessary in consequence of it, and I should not propose to make representations to them.
