Question
Redistribution
Colonel CLIVE
asked the Home Secretary if he can see his way to retain the name of Ross in the new constituency to be formed from the Ross Division of Herefordshire and Hereford City, and to call it the Hereford and Ross Division instead of the Hereford Division?
Sir G. CAVE
Rule 14 of the Instructions to the Boundary Commissioners required that where an ancient Parliamentary Borough loses its representation, the county division in which the borough becomes merged shall be named after the merged borough. The Rule was based upon a recommendation of the Speaker's Conference, and I am not at present aware of any sufficient reason for departing from the Rule in the case referred to.
