asked the Food Controller whether, in view of the prospective increase in the supply of home and Irish eggs, it is possible to cancel the Egg Prices Order so far as it applies to fresh eggs and imported fresh eggs; and whether he can see his way to withdraw all control of the egg trade as soon as the Government stocks of American, Canadian, Egyptian, and pickled eggs are exhausted?

I cannot usefully add anything to the notice published in the Press on the 1st February to the following effect:

"The Food Controller does not propose importing or pickling eggs this year, as he desires to leave the matter in the hands of the trade. With regard to prices, control will have to remain until the price of eggs is reduced automatically to somewhere near its normal by increased supplies."

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the resentment and unrest caused by the failure of sick persons to obtain spirits when medical certificates have ordered such; and, if so, whether any steps will be taken to meet the stated necessity?

I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The question of increasing the percentage of spirits permitted to be withdrawn from bond for home consumption is under immediate consideration.
