Wireless Telegraphy

asked the Prime Minister whether any decision has been come to with regard to the recommendations of the Wireless Telegraphy Committee?

League Of Nations (British Delegates)

asked the Prime Minister who will be the delegates of His Majesty's Government to the Assembly of the League of Nations?

The Lord President of the Council, the President of the Board of Education, my right bon. Friend the Member for the Gorbals Division of Glasgow (Mr. G. N. Barnes).

Arabia (Emir Feisal)

asked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government has carried out its promises to Emir Feisal?

I am not aware of any promises made by His Majesty's Government to the Emir Feisal which have not been carried out.

East Africa (Kilindini Harbour Schemes)

1.

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether two harbour schemes are now being carried out or planned at Kilindini, in East Africa; and whether, owing to the need for road building and railway construction in the Colony, he will reconsider the spending of a million sterling on these schemes?

Arrangements for the execution of the Government harbour scheme at Kilindini are in active pre- paration. The suggestion that, as an alternative, the Government should associate itself with a private scheme for a port at another part of Mombasa Island was negatived after careful consideration with the Secretary of State's technical advisers and the Governor of the Colony. The persons interested in the private scheme have full liberty to proceed with it, but it is not known whether they are doing so. I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that the Colony's requirements in railway and road construction are not being overlooked, but the provision of adequate terminal facilities is an essential part of the development of the country.

Bee Candy

asked the Minister of Food why it is necessary to get a permit to obtain bee candy for feeding bees when the said candy is rendered not fit for human consumption and can be used for no other purpose?

The restriction referred to by the hon. Member was imposed to prevent the diversion to other purposes of sugar allocated for feeding bees. In view of the improvement of the sugar supplies, its removal is now under consideration.

Police Pensions

12.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that no extra payments have yet been made to retired policemen in accordance with the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1920; and if he will expedite payment?

The Treasury Order under Section 3 of the Act was made on 11th October, and directly it was available the application forms were issued to the Metropolitan police pensioners: the applications are being examined as they are received, and payment will be made as soon as possible in each case. I am sure that there will be no avoidable delay in the case of other forces.
