Joan Of Arc Hostel, Plumstead

asked the Secretary of State for War if his attention has been called to the disgraceful state of the Joan of Arc Hostel, Plumstead; if he is aware that the windows are broken and pieces of roofing are being pulled off daily; and will he consider the advisibility of selling the whole concern?

Without accepting the description of the buildings in question, I may say that the First Commissioner is quite prepared to sell this and similar properties should a satisfactory price be offered.

Roads (Maintenance)

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport on what principle the classification of roads in rural district councils' areas is carried out and grants towards the repair of those roads made; and the percentage of the total cost of the repair of classified roads contributed by the Road Board and what is the sum of money involved?

The information which the hon. Member asks for is contained in the Report on the Administration of the Road Fund for the year 1920–21, of which I am sending him a copy.
