Unemployment

Devonport

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons, specifying men, women, boys and girls, on the Devonport Employment Exchange during the month of November?

The following Table gives the number of persons on the registers of the Devonport Employment Exchange at the beginning of each week in November, 1926:to what amount, is derived by his Department in respect of the Buff Book authorised and supplied to London telephone subscribers?

The royalty payable covers the Post Office expenses incurred in supplying information and distributing the Buff Book, but does not provide any appreciable profit.

Great West Road (Beacon Lights)

asked the Minister of Transport if his attention has been drawn to the danger on the Great West Road, owing to the inefficiency of the beacon lights; and will he, with a view to public safety, consider the reinforcement of such beacons by green lights lower down?

Comments on these beacon lights have come to my notice, and I have referred the matter to the Middlesex County Council, who are responsible for the road in question.

Scotland

Eriboll Estate (Sale)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action the Board of Agriculture took between Whit Sunday, 1923, and. Whit Sunday, 1926, with a view to the constitution of small holdings upon or to the disposal otherwise of the estate of Eriboll; and whether the Board considered at any time during the present year any scheme for the settlement of ex-service men other than the one which was refused by the latter in 1923?

The problem of dealing with Eriboll was continuously before the Board of Agriculture for Scotland during the period mentioned by the hon. and gallant Member and various proposals for sub-division of the farm were examined up to the time when the offer from the present purchaser was received.

Conon Lodge

asked the Secretary of. State for Scotland the purpose for which Conon Lodge and the lands, parks, and plantations adjoining were purchased?

The subjects referred to formed part of the estate of Kilmuir, which was purchased in 1904 by the Congested Districts Board mainly with the object, I understand, of utilising the farms on the estate, so far as they were suitable for the purpose, for extension of existing holdings and for new holdings.
